Spider Vain Removal » Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy

Tired of wearing long skirts or pants to cover up those tiny veins on your legs? Sclerotherapy may be the solution for you…

What is Sclerotherapy?

This is a method used to eliminate small veins or spider veins near the surface of the skin of the leg region. They are typically less than 1mm in diameter and are bluish or red in color. These veins are different from varicose veins for they are not ropy, thick, or bumpy. These veins are superficial in nature and are injected with a sclerosing agent that causes a gradual fading of the treated vessel over a period of several weeks or months.

Does Sclerotherapy Work for Everyone?

Most people treated will have good results, however, there is no guarantee that sclerotherapy will be effective in every case.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Generally, clients may need anywhere from 2-4 treatments, 1-2 months apart.
The number of treatments may vary depending on the darkness of the veins and adherence to post care instructions such as elevating your legs daily, drinking plenty of water, daily use of support hose, and fast walking 4 times of week for 15-40 minutes.

What Should I Avoid Before Treatment?

It is recommended to avoid taking any oral supplements such as Vitamin E or Fish Oils to help prevent bruising. Medications such as St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aspirin, Aleve, Excedrin, and other anti-inflammatory medications should be avoided at least 2 days prior to treatment to minimize bleeding and bruising.

How Should I Prepare For Such A Treatment?

Purchase support hose at your local pharmacy or nursing uniform store. Bring them with you to the appointment along with comfortable shorts to wear during the treatment and loose fitting pants to wear after the treatment. Plan your Sclerotherapy treatment at least 2-4 weeks before exposure to the sun or flying.

What Are the Most Common Side Effects?

Bruising, Transient Hyperpigmentation, and tenderness at the injection site are the most common side effects.

Things to Do After Treatment:
• Keep bandages on until the next day, wash your hands first, then remove them before showering
• Cool your legs with cold water after each shower.
• Keep area dry and clean.
• Elevate your legs twice a day for at least 20 minutes
• Drinking plenty of water,
• Daily use of support hose and
• Fast walking 4 times per week for 15-40 minutes.

Avoid Sunbathing, Ultraviolet Exposure, Swimming in chlorinated pools, Jacuzzis, Saunas, or Hot Tubs for at least 2 weeks after treatment. Avoid prolong standing, sitting, or crossing of your legs.
